I called Grandma Hess on Thursday to visit. She was telling me of a recent meal preparation and mentioned an apple and celery salad. I have never eaten any such thing but it sounded tasty.
Apple & Celery Salad
Chop apples and celery into bite-sized pieces, place into a bowl. Add chopped pecans. Stir in Helmann's mayonnaise (Grandma says it has to be Helmann's to taste right). Make it with equal portions of apple and celery. If you don't usually like nuts "in your food", give this one a try, it wouldn't be the same without the pecans. Add just enough mayo to coat the apples, celery and pecans. Of course adjust the amount of each ingredient to your preference. It really should sit in the fridge for an hour before serving.
Our family has enjoyed this new dish twice in the last three days. I should have a photo as it does make a lovely salad but we have gobbled it up (twice!) before I thought about the camera!
I called Grandma back to tell her how very yummy the salad was. It seemed to warm her heart that my little family enjoyed her dish and that I called back with a report. :0)
