We went this past weekend to one of the local orchards and picked peaches. We did have a nice time. It was "The Peach Festival" weekend so there were pony rides and music and such.
Kennedy got to ride on Hershey Kiss. She really enjoyed it!
Bailey's horse was Daisy.
Of course Addison is too little to ride but she got to pet the horses!
We went over to what we thought was a giant sandbox...
It was actually filled with dried green peas! It was great! It was all the fun of playing in a sandbox without getting all sandy.
It was really lots of fun. I wasn't ready to leave the "pea box"!
Then came the peach pickin'! :0) We rode on a trailer that was pulled by a tractor out to the orchard. Daddy got us a little hand cart to put our boxes for peach collecting.
Addison promptly climbed into the wagon to help with the peaches.
And she even got to pick a few...
We decided one box was enough this trip. It was getting late and no one had eaten lunch yet. There are over 35 orchards within 15 minutes of our home so we can go and pick anytime that we want. Addison liked riding in the cart. You can see Kennedy has run way ahead on the left and Bailey was ahead of her.
It was enjoyable. We went back and had some roasted corn and chili and sausage and then called it a day.
Then....a few days later....
We set up an assembly line (while Addison was napping). Bailey washed the peaches. Then I blanched them.
Kennedy peeled and pitted the peaches. Then I finished cleaning them and cut them for cooking.
I don't know how many pounds we started out with but after they were all peeled and pitted, minus the 10 or so that we ate throughout the week... we ended up with enough pie filling for about 10 pies or cobblers. It had been a long day and so the girls had to go to bed before we could get it all finished. I made all the filling myself.
We are waiting until Saturday night to bake a peach pie!
