“Love is doing what will enthrall the beloved with the greatest and longest joy. What will enthrall the beloved this way is the glory of God. Love means doing all we can, at whatever cost to ourselves, to help people be enthralled with the glory of God. When they are, they are satisfied and God is glorified. Therefore loving people and glorifying God are one.” ~~John Piper

I read this quote earlier today and have spent a fair amount of time pondering the thought.
It's meaning encompasses far more than I realized the first time I read it through. I began to think of this statement with a more broad "stroke".
John 15:12 - "This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you."
1 Pet 1:22 -
"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:"
1 John 4:12 - "No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us."

I love my husband.
“Love is doing what will enthrall the my husband with the greatest and longest joy. What will enthrall the my husband this way is the glory of God. Love means doing all I can, at whatever cost to myself, to help my husband be enthralled with the glory of God. When he is, my husband will be satisfied and God is glorified. Therefore loving my husband and glorifying God are one.”

I love my children.
“Love is doing what will enthrall my children with the greatest and longest joy. What will enthrall my children this way is the glory of God. Love means doing all I can , at whatever cost to me, to help my children be enthralled with the glory of God. When my children are, my children are satisfied and God is glorified. Therefore loving my children and glorifying God are one.

I love my family...my father, my mother, my brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandparents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins...
Love is doing what will enthrall my family with the greatest and longest joy. What will enthrall my father this way is the glory of God. Love means doing all I can, at whatever cost to myself, to help my mother be enthralled with the glory of God. When my brothers are, they are satisfied and God is glorified. Therefore loving my family and glorifying God are one.

I love my church family.
Love is doing what will enthrall my church family with the greatest and longest joy. What will enthrall the men, women & children in my church this way is the glory of God. Love means doing all I can, at whatever cost to myself, to help my brothers & sisters in Christ to be enthralled with the glory of God. When my church family is, they are satisfied and God is glorified. Therefore loving the men, women & children in my church and glorifying God are one.

I love my friends.
Love is doing what will enthrall my friends with the greatest and longest joy. What will enthrall my friends this way is the glory of God. Love means doing all I can, at whatever the cost to myself, to help my friends be enthralled by the glory of God. When my friends are, they are satisfied and God is glorified. Therefore, loving my friends and glorifying God are one.

Words to think about...
Words to hold up to scripture to find truth...
My own thoughts to ponder.
My own actions to consider.
What exactly am I doing to enthrall my husband, my children, my family, my church and my friends with The Longest and The Greatest Joy?
How are my words and my actions bringing glory to God every moment of every single day?

All for His glory...

Beautifully said! It amazese me how the Lord uses us to affirm one another and confirm a word or message He has for us. This is something we've been studing in our weekly Bible study for about a month now. Looks like He has many of us "growing" in the same direction. I think that's really cool! Blessings !

You always challenge me, make me think about my actions, and point me to the path of obedience to God. I stray so easily from that path. I love Him dearly. Yet...I am selfish, lazy, rebellious. Thank you for sharing your walk with Christ. You bless me and certainly glorify our God.
your sister in Christ,
Jacqueline
