Teacup Tuesdays - Mema's Shelf

100_0579[1]

Mema Simpson.  She was my Daddy's mother.  Bobbie Louvena Quarles Simpson.  Her sisters called her Vena, most other folks called her Bobbie.

Mema simpson

Mema was born March 29th, 1911.  She was the second born of seven children.  The oldest child, Mattie, died around age seven.  Mema's mother died when Mema was only ten years old, leaving Mema as the primarly caretaker of her five living siblings while Granddad Quarles worked as a blacksmith.  Mema's father married again and four children were eventually added to their household.

Mema married in 1934 to an Army tail-gunner in training.  Joe Scivally Simpson.  He was the youngest of eight children, born November 1st, 1910.  Their son, my father, was born October 15th, 1949.  I was the only grandchild for over six years.  Mema & Papa lived a little more than an hour from us so we visited often.

I have so many memories of them and their home.  Mema died when I was ten but my heart overflows with memories of her.  She remained particularly close to some of her sisters, Aunt Neva, Aunt Ruth and Aunt Vada.  Those four women traveled and enjoyed many a day together even as old women.  I can remember being in the front seat between Mema and Neva with Ruth and Vada in the backseat many a time.  :0)   She liked to listen to this song, One Day At A Time, sung by a woman named Christy Lane.  And she liked to listen to The Old Rugged Cross.

Mema was a small woman of only four foot, eleven inches.  She got her hair fixed every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. by Roberta.  We often shared a bologna, mustard and onion sandwich for lunch.  Her fried chicken was the best that I remember eating.  The wall-heater that heated their entire home warmed me better than any heater I recall.  Her high heels that I used to play dressup with fit better than any other.  At bedtime we would stay up way too late and talk and she would tickle me until I ran out of giggles.

This teacup and saucer shelf hung in her dining room.  Papa died when I was fourteen.  Five years later when I had a husband and a house of my own, this teacup and saucer shelf became a part of my home.

100_0580[1]

There is a groove in each shelf that is designed for the saucer to sit safely inside of and a nail that is stained to match the wood for each teacup to rest on.  I don't know where Mema got this shelf or who made it.  It hangs in my dining room and I see it many times each day.  What a privilege to have cups that overflow with memories and a shelf that brings a sweetness to my heart every single time that I see it.

Teacup Tuesdays - This is what it is all about.

100_0547[1]

This is Kennedy in her gown drinking a cup of hot tea before breakfast.

100_0546[1]

Sleepy eyes and soft padding feet...  It is truly one of the best things to see and hear each day.  As each child wakes up, she comes to find me and we cuddle and kiss and hug and "love each other" into another day.  Oft times we have tea in the morning.  It satisfies their hunger so that we can prepare our morning meal together.  "Taking tea" could also be said "tying strings".  The conversations that take place over a cup of tea are always so wonderful.

Sometimes we have fancy tea parties but most of the time I sit and have tea with my children just as I sit and have tea with friends.  We talk of this, that and the other; sometimes the conversation is lighthearted and many times the conversations are heart-changing.  This is what the teacup is all about.  It makes for a lovely addition and decoration to our home but it is the strings that are tied right through the very handles.  It is the strings that weave us together.  It is not the tea that is contained within the teacup, it is the relationships that fill the cups and it is the memories that overflow onto the saucers.

Although I so enjoy a cup of tea with a dear friend, the very best cup of tea is taken with my child.

100_0548

...sometimes we laugh and smile over our tea...

100_0549

...sometimes we cry...

 "9For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;  10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;  11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;  12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:  15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:  16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:  17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."  ~~Colossians 1:9-17

~~~
I pray that my children be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
I pray that they might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work.  I pray that they would increase in the knowledge of God and be strengthened with all might.  All according to the HIS GLORIOUS POWER!  I pray that it be all unto patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.  I give thanks unto the Father which hath made my children meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light...
~~~

The Lord has been teaching me to pray...not the fumbling words of a sinful and selfish wife and mother...but teaching me to pray the very words breathed by the all-mighty, all-knowing, all-merciful, all-loving, most-holy Creator.

As we sit across the table from our children today, we must listen intently and leave all the busyness of the day aside.  Their characters are being formed, the hearts are being changed...

Each conversation...it really is all about eternity.

Addison really liked balls so we made it a Round Birthday Party.  ;-)  We had a polka dotted cake and balls and bubbles.

P1010122

...she liked the bubbles...

We have family coming in this weekend.  I will post more photos over the next couple of days for our family and friends that are far away from Addison on her birthday.

~~~
May I just take today to shout from the rooftop...
Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward!
~~~~~~

Psalm 127

 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

~~~
Birthdays are completely different to me now that I have children of my own.  What an amazing day of celebration.  A celebration of life of our child...the life that has already been lived and the life that is ahead of our child.  A day where my feeling of thankfulness to the Lord overwhelms me.  The reward of our children is amazing and humbling.  A day of tremendous joy for the Klause quiver is blessed.
The Strawberry Farm
100_0441
These are Kennedy's horses.  Yesterday I sat with her for about an hour and played with her and her animals.
100_0439
Kennedy pretends to tend her animals...feeding them, watering them, grooming them, milking the goat, sheering the sheep...
100_0443
We made a watering trough out of some popsicle sticks...
100_0445
Kennedy has named most of her animals along the way.  Yesterday we named most of them.  I wrote their names in ridiculously small letters on the bottoms of their feet or along the inside of their legs.
She named some of them herself:
Myron - a mare - She was sure that Myron was a girl's name.  ;0)
Lollipop - a mare - She originally wanted to name this horse Sunscreen.  Ha!  Mother suggested that she think some more.
Dottie - a filly - Started as Spotty but she changed it.
Shadow - a stallion
Caramel - a filly
Chocolate - a filly
Mother rattled off many, many male and female names of which she selected for some of her other animals:
Henry - a rooster
Thunder - a stallion
Mother named the momma pig...Pauline.  :0)
~~~

We still have a few animals left to name.  She enjoys her little farm.  Mother enjoys watching her imagination and helping her learn as she plays.

:0)

~~~
Oh yes...and it is not Old MacDonald's farm.  It is The Strawberry Farm.  Some time back as the girls were playing, they were addressing one another politely and a "problem" came about.  They were all calling the other Miss Klause.  Collectively they determined that they should not be "Miss" because they were pretending to be grown, married and with children.
Kennedy (age 3) asked if Daddy would be her husband.  I told her 'no' that he was Mommy's husband.  She asked what her husband's name would be.  I told her that God already knew her husband and was preparing him to be her husband.  I told Kennedy that only God knows his name and at this point she should pray for him and then we will wait patiently for many years before the Lord shows us who he will be.
The girls then inquired of what they should call themselves while playing.  I suggested that maybe they select a name that would not likely be a real man's name AND use something that was created by God's hand.  Maybe tree names like Mrs. Oak or Mrs. Maple or flower names like Mrs. Marigold or fruit names like Mrs. Blueberry or Mrs. Blackberry.  Well...since then Kennedy has been known as Mrs. Strawberry.  Addison named herself Mrs. Apple-orange.  Bailey is Mrs. Blueberry.
The Little Girls' Room
Let's see...
We moved back to Texas May 21st.  There are still boxes in the garage.  Mostly books and off-season clothes that need to be re-boxed and labeled.  It is so hot here.  The weather is just the opposite of Washington weather.  We lived on the eastern side of Washington.  Very little rain there...  The last seven months we spent in Washington the high temperature was 50 degrees and we saw that only twice.  We acclimated to the climate nicely.  About two weeks before we left I was taking the trash out in short sleeves and no shoes and it was 42 degrees.  Ha!  A dear friend that we met there had moved from Phoenix about three years prior.  She was serious when she said that 40 degrees would be a heat wave.
The girls and I have had a hard time getting used to the heat again.  It hovers around 100 and has since early June.  Funny....the girls and I are back to wearing a sweater when it is 80 in the morning.
Our new home has four bedrooms:  two very small ones, one small and the master is moderately-sized.  In Washington, all three girls shared a room.  Here, Addison and Kennedy share and Bailey has her own.
2008 download 202
Addison's bed...
The walls were already painted a lovely light green so their pink and green pretties went well in their room.
2008 download 204
Mrs. Bohot gave Addison the piggy bank before she was born.  The little pink wooden house is one of my favorite material possessions.  My Daddy gave it to me several years ago.  It is actually a recipe box and a music box.  It plays My Favorite Things.  The little rabbits were given to Kennedy & Addison by Mrs. Bohot before we left Texas.
2008 download 205
This pretty little rabbit was mine when I was a little girl.  I think Mother actually got her for me somewhere along the way.  I must ask Mother about Miss Flopsy's history.  ;0)
2008 download 206
Under Miss Flopsy is a small light so that Addison can look at books while in her crib.  The girls get to look at books in their beds before "lights out".  This came about when we were in Washington with all the girls in one room.  I wanted Bailey and Kennedy to be able to look through books without disturbing Addison's rest.  We purchased small shelves at Michael's and my ever-so-smart husband decided that headlamps would be the best option.  They are battery operated and came with a headstrap.  You know, so that men can wear them and have a hands-free flashlight.  We use rechargable batteries and it works so well.  The lamps are attached to the shelves with heavy-duty Velcro.
2008 download 210
This is a mosaic.  It has a sweet story behind it.  Bailey was a baby.  The pastor's wife at our church made the most beautiful mosaic crosses.  Each year we had a nice dinner for the ladies and there were always door prizes.  Mrs. Sweet donated this cross.  Mrs. Jakubauskas and I went to the dinner and she won the cross in the drawing.  I admired it and said something like, 'If you ever suddenly find that missing from your wall, I'm the guilty one.'  ;0)  I couldn't get a good picture of it.  It is in shades of purple and so lovely.  Guess what I got from Mrs. Jakubauskas for Christmas that year.  Now don't feel sorry for her, I had selected the broken ceramic pieces from Mrs. Sweet's collection for a cross to be prepared for Mrs. Jakubauskas about a year prior.  :0)  So she has one of Mrs. Sweet's lovelies as well.
2008 download 213
This is Kennedy's side of the room.  That big horse on the bed was a gift from Mother & Daddy last December.  Kennedy's named her Furry.  She is so soft that I would dare you not to find yourself petting Furry if you ever happen to come to visit and lay your hands on her.  Furry travels with us on any lengthy journeys.  Mother convinced Kennedy to pack her in the suitcase instead of bringing her on the plane when we flew back to Texas.  She went to Walmart with us a couple of weeks ago.  She was strapped in the seat next to Kennedy.  :0)  Kennedy asked if Furry could come into the store with us but I required that Furry remain outside.  As I was getting out of the van in the parking lot, I looked over at the minivan parked next to us and I saw a toddler seat....in the seat next to the toddler seat was a large stuffed giraffe.  :0)  I should have left a note on their windshield.  I am sure that the other momma would have gotten the same giggle I got out of seeing the big horse in our seat.
2008 download 214
The girls got these little pink straw hats last February.  They were very sincere in wearing their pink cowgirl boots and pink hats in Washington.  Momma had nothing to do with this.  There was many a smile put on many a face in the state of Washington at the site of three little pink cowgirls.  The picture above is something that I bought when Kennedy was a baby.  I thought it was nice...Sweet Sisters...it is actually an old advertisement for strawberry jam.
2008 download 216
I bought the ceramic when Bailey was a baby:  "Blessed are those that rejoice in the little things."
The fabric heart was purchased for my infant girls by Mother:  "Angels Sleeping".
2008 download 217
This is above Kennedy's headboard.  Her shelf with her light, a cross that Mother bought for me several years back, pretty flowers arrived via Mother while we were in Washington and one of Kennedy's horses.
2008 download 209
Mother bought this simple creamy metal towel rack (actually) that has worked nicely for a quilt rack.  The crocheted blanket was made for Bailey by a friend of Mother's.  Bailey used the blanket on her bed while in Washington.  The little white box was also a gift from Mother.  It makes a nice place for doll clothes.
2008 download 208
The floor area where the ironing board is at changes from week-to-week.  Currently, the baby-doll bunk beds are kept on this wall.  :0)
2008 download 211
These are my ballet shoes.  I took ballet only for a short time.  I think I was about six.  The tiny birdhouse is has a mosaic roof, also made by Mrs. Sweet.
The bedroom stays mostly free of toys.  There is a small toy basket under Addison's bed.  The other toys remain in the garage in boxes.  The boxes are brought in only one at a time and then returned to the garage at the end of the day.  It is a wonderful way to keep toys under control, but that is an entirely different post.
He's been pretty sick since February.  He was diagnosed with cancer.
I had to come up with some clothes for him to wear...
I found that a boy's 4T fit him nicely...with some alterations, of course.  I tapered the sides of his shirt, added snaps to the shirt and shorts so that I could snap them together and added a tail hole.
Some of his tumors were internal and some were external so his the clothes protected the external tumors from being damaged...
He tolerated it just wonderfully.
Lots of love and kisses from his girls in his last days...
~~~~~~~

God's word is not completely clear on whether our animals will join us in Glory.  In Isaiah 65:25, He says this, " The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD." and in Isaiah 11:6, the Lord says, "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them."  It seems that only in Heaven could the wolf dwell with a lamb and the lion eat straw.

We are thankful for the time that we had with Logan here.  May God be glorified...even in the death of our ol' dog.

2008 download 408

Goodbye Logan.

We will miss you.

Snickerdoodles

The girls and I are on a mission to make "The Perfect Snickerdoodle Cookie".  We just started this morning so the recipe still needs a bit of work.  We had fun this morning, you can read about it here.

We went to the park today to meet some new friends...

100_0356[2]

Sure is hard to get a good picture of all the girls at once...

100_0357[1]

Anyway, we decided to take our Snickerdoodles to share.

100_0355[1]

Here is the recipe if you want to give them a try:

In a large bowl cream 1 cup softened butter, 1 cup granulated sugar and 2/3 cup brown sugar.  Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla and beat until it is smooth.  In a separate bowl, combine 3 cups white flour, ½ teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda and ½ teaspoon cream of tartar.

*** SIDE-NOTE: Now if you read my previous post you learned that we didn’t have cream of tartar.  We used vinegar as a substitute this morning.  So if you use vinegar or lemon juice instead of cream of tartar then add it to your liquid bowl instead of your dry bowl.  If you do not have cream of tartar then you can use ¾ teaspoon vinegar or ¾ teaspoon lemon juice. ***

Where were we?

Oh yes…

Now mix your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients; mix well.  Give the beaters to your children for a treat and put the bowl of cookie dough into the fridge.  Heat the oven to 325 degrees and make the topping for the Doodles.

Topping:

Combine 4 tablespoons granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon in a medium bowl.

Lay a large piece of wax paper out on the countertop and wash your prep dishes or get them into the dishwasher (and don’t forget to make sure the children no longer have cookie dough on their faces or their hands…this way you won’t find it schmeared on the bathroom wall at bathtime).

NOW…take that bowl of dough out of the fridge and grab your tablespoon.  This kind is GREAT TO HAVE to form nice, round cookies:

100_0359[1]

Fill one of your coffee cups with warm water and dip the spoon into the water and then scoop out nearly one tablespoon of dough.  Dipping the spoon in water will allow that sticky dough to slide right off of your spoon.  Then roll the dough into a nice little ball and then roll it in the topping.  Place the dough balls onto your cookie sheet (I will only use my Pampered Chef Stonewarefor cookies as they always come out just perfect and they never stick.).  Use that same tablespoon to smush the cookie in the middle and then sprinkle a little extra sugar and cinnamon mix on each cookie.  The cookies should bake for 13.5 minutes.  They will look undercooked but take them out anyway.

While you are waiting for that first batch, keep rolling the dough.  Place all of your sugar/cinnamon-coated balls onto the wax paper but wait to smush them until they are on the pan.

Wait about two minutes before you take them off of the cookie sheet.  Then wait about two more minutes and taste one of the cookies.  You can adjust the time a bit if you prefer the cookies more or less soft/crunchy.

Don't ask me how many this makes because I did not count.  I'll guess around three dozen.

I think the cookies still need a bit of work as I can taste the slightest salty taste in them so I will make another batch and reduce the salt to a 1/4 teaspoon.  Also if you happen to like a very crunchy cookie (like a ginger snap), then just smush your dough balls nice and flat and they make a nice "Snickerdoodle Snap".  ;0)

Most importantly...have fun...

100_0353[1]

The messes clean up easily and the memories last forever.

Yellow Squash - Southern Fried, of course!

100_0304[1]

Kennedy and I made squash for dinner last night.

I sliced the squash.  I shared the recipe for the egg wash and she prepared it and then she dredged each piece in flour and I fried it up!

100_0305[1]

I would have liked to have had a better picture...you know, one with a nice big bowl filled with squash.  We never could fill the bowl; we were eating it as fast as I could pull it out of the pan!  The girls just loved it.  I couldn't keep my hands off either so we just had our squash as an appetizer.  ;0)

Over the years I have tried several ways of getting batter onto the squash and have always been disappointed.  The final results are poor with the crust being minimal and too thin.  Not this batch!

Fried Squash

Combine three eggs, 3/4 cup milk and 1 1/4 teaspoon salt in a large bowl.  Dip thinly sliced squash into egg batter and then roll in flour.  Use a nice large, in diameter, skillet or pan.  Melt two to three inches of grease and heat to about 325 degrees.  Use a good set of tongs and put the squash in the hot grease one at a time.  The squash needs to be completely submerged just when you drop it in to "seal" the batter onto the squash.  Fry until golden brown.  I place the hot squash into a bowl that is lined with a piece of foil and some paper towels.  I let the freshly fried food drain for a couple of minutes and then put the squash into a warm bowl.  This keeps the food from getting soggy.

This would be enough batter for probably five medium squash.  Taste your first one as soon as it cools enough to eat to see if you need to add salt.  If so, then salt as soon as the squash come out of the grease so that the salt will stay on the food instead of just falling into the bowl.

Mmmm, mmmm!  We picked up the yummy squash from a local farmer's market.  Looks like we are headed back there until we can grow some of our own.

Let Her Come Unto Him

The girls and I spend time every morning praying together and reading God's word together.

I want the girls to learn early to lift one another in prayer.  Friends will come and go in their lives but their sisters will always be near, at least in heart.  Their sisters will see them through their marriage, their pregnancies, birthing their babies, potential illnesses and tragedies that are sure to come, likely the death of their parents, possibly the loss of a child...   Life's heartaches, life's sorrows, life's joys, life's struggles...  I pray my girls are forever friends and know that their sisters will be there to lean on, to pray with, to laugh with and to cry with...

God placed these children into this family for a reason.  No matter what society or current culture tells us, I just refuse to believe that children are born into a family so that they might be raised up and then barely know one another once they leave their parent's home.

This morning Kennedy asked for Bailey and I to pray that she might be better able to sit still in church.

:0)

I have always felt honored to be able to pray for my family and friends.  To be able to go before Jesus, our great redeemer, on their behalf is humbling...

Now...to be able to hear the heart of my children...to hear what burdens them...

.....oh, I cannot tell you how sweet that is......

......how much of an honor it is.....

.....how important it is for me to pray for what my Kennedy is struggling with.....

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."  ~~Psalm 127:3

"But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."  ~~Matthew 19:14

Loops, buns & all kinds of fun...

The girlies and I had some fun a few days ago.

In the Klause House (that rhymes by the way), we call these DOG EARS...

Dsc01390

...and these are FUNNY BUNS...

Dsc01394

...BRAIDED DOG EARS...

Dsc01398

...these are LOOPITY-LOOPS; that is a dog ear made into a braided dog ear and then looped back on itself  :0) ...

Dsc01399

...and these (silly girl) are ROLY POLY BUNS; that is a dog ear that is then rolled and pinned back on itself...

Dsc01410

...and this is my sweet Addison wearing her first set of PIGTAILS...

Dogears are long and floppy versus the short and thin pigtail.

:0)

Glad you stopped in to join us for a bit of fun.

P. S. I wore my hair in FUNNY BUNS all day but somehow we failed to snap a photo of it.

Just a few recent pictures..

Bailey worked on a science project.  She recorded her water temperature and then kept a chart of how long it took the water to freeze.

Dsc01229

Every afternoon the girls rest at 2pm.  Bailey doesn't sleep anymore so she reads or works on latchhooking or embroidery.

Dsc01246

I am pretty sure Addison will be left-handed.  All the girls used their left hand a great deal when they were wee little but Addison continues to switch to her left when she finds spoons, crayons and such in her right hand.

Dsc01268

Schoolwork...  Kennedy is getting so big!  She is locating Texas and Washington on the globe.

Dsc01284

Kennedy's first time to go rollerskating...and with her Daddy of course!  She enjoyed the skating but she did not like the atmosphere.

Dsc01286

Bailey skating with her Daddy.

Shopping...  Addison just loves purses.  :0)

Dsc01332

This photo was taken on Kennedy's birthday.  We went to the mall to pick up a couple of presents (silver purses to match their silver shoes and a new bible for Kennedy).

Dsc01343

On Kennedy's actual birthday we went to the "Panda Noodles" restaurant.  That is what Kennedy calls Chinese food and had a bit of a birthday party.  She is wearing her new purple dress and the pink cowgirl hat that she wanted.

His Suit

Dsc01368_2

I cannot get Logan to sit still for a photo!  He had surgery on Wednesday and is doing well.  For those of you that missed the first post on the old dog, you can go here.

The previous post showed the gown that Mother thought of and that I made.  It worked well and served its purpose.  However it confined him and basically made the dog bedridden since he couldn't walk in it.  It was made like a newborn gown where only his head stuck out.

The second "version" of his "ANTI-LICKING SYSTEM" was a 'one-sie' that I made by attaching two little girl's shirts shirt-tale to shirt-tale.  Of course I made other alterations by tapering and sewing neck holes shut and making tail holes and such.  It worked well but the mild but constant hemorrhage causes the garment to need a nice hot bleach water washing every day.  So...now you see the third "version".

Dsc01384

Here is Logan taking his morning nap in his new "duds".  He wakes from his night-time sleep (just barely) to go outside for 34 seconds, he has a nice big drink of water and a few scratches and then he retires for his morning nap.  :0)

Mr. Klause remembered a woman that we ran across years and years ago that had a Chinese Crested dog that was wearing boys clothes.  She had sewn a pair of shorts to a shirt and of course made necessary adjustments to fit.

So...off I went in search of size 4T little boy's clothes.  I tapered the shirt to fit and attached snaps so that I could snap the shirt to the shorts.  The previous 'one-sie' was cumbersome since the entire thing had to be detached from his collar and removed so that he could go outside to potty.  With this "suit", I can just unsnap his shorts and take them off!  This morning I will make a tail-hole for him by creating a large button hole in the shorts and four button holes around the neckline so that I can attach his collar to the shirt.  By attaching the shirt to the collar it will keep it from sliding down his chest AND it will prevent him from intentionally getting out of his "suit".

Dsc01369

A little snack before bed last night...

Of course if you happen to find  yourself in need of such clothing for your dog, just send me an email and I would be happy to make something for your pooch!  :0)

Purple Dress Up Party - Part 4

  100_00071

The dresses are made, the cakes are baked, the purple decorations are strung about everywhere.  Little girls are excited and Grandmas are enjoying watching their excitement.

The Ladies Klause ready for a Purple Party!

It was a wonderful afternoon filled with little girl giggles and lovely purple dresses, bows, flowers and lace.

Necklaces:  I made small fabric tubes before the party; the girls threaded a bead over the fabric and then dropped a marble into the fabric tube; then another bead threaded over the fabric; then another marble dropped into the tube.  The process was alternated until the little girl decided her necklace was finished.  The ends are sewn shut and there you have a simple, lovely, yet unbreakable necklace.  They are perfect for the wee little girls and lots of fun for the older ones to be able to have a necklace to match their dress.

Whew...Daddy got called into work but the rest of us were asleep by 8 that night!

Birthdays have become so much more to me over the years.  What an amazing day to remember the blessing of the lives of each of my children.  What an amazing day to stop and think on their lives...pray for each step of their future...be thankful for each moment spent with my children.

1Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.  2It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.  3Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward4As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.  5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."  ~~Psalm 127

Afternoon sewing...

Dsc01363

I recently started teaching the girls to sew by hand.

It is my goal to spend some time every afternoon stitching.

Why sewing?  :0)

There are many reasons.  It is good to be quiet.  How can we hear the Holy Spirit's whisper if there is constant noise, entertainment, talking, etc.??  The Lord has spent a fair amount of time with me over the last year or so teaching me the beauty of being still and quiet.  You can read this post on the matter:  Do You Ever Enjoy The Silence?

I think it wise to teach our children to be quiet.  Our world does not have to be continuously filled with action and noise.   I recently read an article and within it were the following words; it is the words of a woman with six little boys and expecting her seventh child; she too is speaking of teaching her children to be quiet:  "If we train our children at a young age to enjoy quietness, then they will eagerly embrace the discipline it takes to develop their own life with God, and the conviction to LISTEN and WAIT for His specific call and purpose for their life as they are in God's word and in prayer.  Our society is so entertainment crazy!  So addicted to noise!  So filled with artificial means of happiness!  And so plagued by the disease of boredom!  When we deliberately wean our children from the lure of these unnatural and false substitutes for true peace and contentment, we do them a great service and facilitate their being equipped for the Master's use!"

I agree with this woman.  I am not insinuating that we sequester ourselves for hours on end each day.  I am simply stating that it is very easy, in our society, to overdose our children on television, toys, entertainment, going to visit a friend, going here, doing this, doing that...  Our society is so busy going somewhere all the time.

I want my girls to learn the self-discipline of sitting still...

I want my girls to learn to enjoy the work of their hands...

I want my girls to know that their work should be done unto the Lord...

I want my girls to enjoy working with their hands and then giving the fruits of their labor, in love, to someone else...

I want them to learn the attention to detail that sewing requires...

I want them to learn the patience that sewing requires...

I want them to learn to perseverance to complete a project...

I want them to enjoy the simplicity yet the beauty of something that is hand-crafted...

Dsc01364

I want them to learn to enjoy the silence so that they may enjoy the fellowship of their Heavenly Father.
